Re: Tooth stuff
Those pictures are awesome! Nice of your kity to still still for them too, LOL! As for the string and such, yes I do find myself picking up stuff I ordinarily wouldn't be too concerned about so my fuzz balls won't be tempted. Glad your kitty is okay. Another thing to be careful of is the handles on plastic bags. One of mine did battle with one once. Ya just never know!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Re: Tooth stuff
i have a cat who has food allergies, and one of the symptoms was vomiting. You may want to discuss this possibility with the vet. once we found the right food for her the vomiting ceased (except for the hairballs... ack!)

Re: Tooth stuff
Well the diagnosis is "severe tarter". So he just needs a cleaning I guess. I didn't get to talk to the doctor (I did a drop off/pick up) but they said they didn't see anything to be seriously concerned with and that I should just schedule a cleaning "soon". Crisis averted I suppose!
I got to hear how he was with the techs first hand though... While I was waiting to pick him up I heard a cat SCREAMING in the back room. Turns out that was him being unhappy about being put into his carrier. And I was sitting there thinking "man I feel bad for that cat's owner".

Thank you for the update!
However, if it were me, I'd feel better after talking to the vet, Jeni, can you call back and request to talk to him or have him return your call? Also, see if he can spare a moment for talking about the diet.
I've seen some nasty cases before, but not quite like this one as far as tarter goes (not that that's really bad, just unusual in appearance)
I laughed really hard at your last sentence

Well I talked to one of the techs at the front desk and the second I said that I was really surprised because it was BIG and looked like cauliflower, she (and the tech next to her) both said "oh that's just tartar... the second you said cauliflower that was the giveaway". I'm going to get them cleaned either way since he obviously needs it so I'll make sure to talk to the vet before he goes in that morning
Yeah I'm not sure what to do about his diet right now... They said he's fat (which I knew, by about two or three pounds, not severely) so I have to feed him less. But I have no idea how to manage that... My other two are within the normal weight range and I leave dry food out for them all day. It's what they're used to... I don't know how I'd be able to switch them to a once or twice a day feeding pattern when this is how they've eaten for 8 years now... Oh and as far as the vomiting, he's not doing it nearly as much anymore lately. I haven't been finding anything but hairballs lately so I think switching to this last food helped (they're eating purina one urinary now).

Re: Tooth stuff
Well, talk to your vet about it anyway, he can suggest tips, advice for type/brand of food, or how to integrate feeding amounts, etc. One should never do this alone without their vet's advice, particularly in a cat who is even slightly overweight, too drastic or sudden weight loss causes severe health problems. Just tell him your concerns and get some input from him. There are several ways one can do this with multiple cats, just have to be careful and monitor all of them for appropriate amounts, health, etc.
