8 year old cat has different sized pupils

Post by rizz »

This seems serious to me, but I have been to the vet and they never mentioned it. My 8 year old spayed black and tan cat has 2 different sized pupils. She also had atrocious breath. I had her in for teeth cleaning and they were unable to sedate her as she has a deformity in her nose and throat area so they did some other kind of sedation not involving an airway. They cleaned her teeth and removed a couple even, but I think this is more serious. She sits with one eye squinting alot now. I am so afraid she has brain damage or something terminal. Has anyone ever seen this before? It has been about 2 months since her teeth cleaning.

Did you notice the larger pupil before or after the teeth cleaning?

What anesthetic was used for the dental?

Did she have antibiotics before and after the dental? If so, what was the antibiotic?

Has she been tested for FELV/FIV? Is she current on vaccinations?

Has she had a full blood profile done, thyroid function test and tested for hypertension?

If the vet hasn't addressed the larger pupil, I'd strongly recommend a new feline-only vet, and get full bloodwork done on her promptly, but do find out what anesthetic was used, if her recovery from anesthesia was uneventful, and what antibiotic was chosen, if any.

I am having the vet office check her records right now. I will get an answer and let you know. Thanks!

Well, my fears are getting worse. I have to take her in since they think it's unrelated to the teeth cleaning. I go tomorrow. I'm terrified.
I'll hopefully be back with good news afterward. :(

What did the vet say? If you can answer the q's above, I can help you with what to ask/check for with the vet. If you're not confident in this vet, and the vet never said anything about the larger pupil, yet certainly knew it was prominent, I'd be getting a new vet, pronto.
