Kitty advice needed
Re: Kitty advice needed
Thanks for the advice Traci. He doesn't have renal failure or anything serious. He is showing slightly elevated levels for kidneys. This is apparently normal for a cat his age and is nothing to worry about, but to prevent the levels rising he is now on the k/d diet or a low protein diet. I am not swtiching canned foods. At the vet's recommendation he has stopped eating supermarket off the shelf brands and is on Hill's k/d now. I have had trouble with him eating the k/d canned food so the vet recommended some low protein food, i.e. cooking plain chicken or steamed fish. This is a better option as he prefers this over canned food. I don't want him to starve! But I am hoping to trick him a little and mix a bit of the k/d canned food in withhis chicken. Thankfully he loves the k/d dry food so that is the majority of his diet at the moment. Obviously with this food I have to keep an eye on his weight loss or gain and he will be tested in a few months to see if this diet is working for him. This the vet's recommendation for my kitty. It may or may not be appropriate for other kitties. But he certainly is getting k/d diet along with a little of other cooked food.

Also..... as for the breathing thing, I spoke to the vet today and she assured me that in his recent two visits to the vet his heart and lungs were clear so it seems I am just being paranoid!
