One Female, Two Males Meeting Problems

I have a male and a female cat, 7 and 8 years respectively. The male is a manx and very playfull, the female is a tabby and not at all playfull.

I adopted a 2yr old male tabby as a play companion for my manx.

I followed the advice of the board, but, my female got a look at the male on his way up to his seclusion. She immediatly started attacking my manx???

We separated them all into thier own rooms and then introduced the boys. They are getting along great.

Now we are trying to reintegrate the female and we are having problems. We cracked open the door to her room so she could see the boys and she has done nothing but growl and screetch. If one of the boys is outside the door when we try to enter the room, she will rush the door with claws out, attempting to attack them. She has escaped twice and has terrorized the boys. She won't even get close enough to smell them... just seeing another cat is enough to set her off.

It has been 6 weeks now and I am unsure of what to do. The manx is so terrorized that he runs and hides when we open her door.

Are your cats spayed and neutered? if not, having them spayed and neutered will help a great deal.

One trick I use for new kitties is take some vanilla extract and put a small dab under their chins and on the base of their tails so they all smell the same. cats are scent-driven and sometimes when you neutralize their smell, it helps to ease the transition of introductions.

Oh boy...this story sounds familiar!! When we moved into our current house about 10 years ago, Frodo (female) must have seen a cat outside and went ballistic on Gizmo (male)...even when a door was between them, if she got a sound or scent of him she would go crazy, growling hissing, swatting at the door. This went on for weeks. We had to keep them seperate. Eventually, after about a month or two we slowly introduced them. They never became friends again, but learned to tolerate each other. Frodo would simply go after Gizmo for no reason at all...he terrorized him on occasion for years. She no longer attacks him, but she does growl if he gets to near her. Gizmo has turned the tables and moved up to alpha cat...now he terrorizes Willow and we have to seperate them if we aren't home and at night when we sleep.

Have you had her to the vet for a check to make sure nothing is wrong? It sounds like displaced aggression for sure, but it's always a good idea to have them checked. MA's suggestion of vanilla is a good one...I haven't had luck with it with Gizmo and Willow, but this has been going on for almost a year. I honestly think Gizmo is sight driven when it comes to his tirades You can also try Feliway or the Comfort Zone "thingy"...I've not tried them yet, but I think MA has

We had the vet check her and she is fine. The vanilla is a great idea, but as I said, she attacks on site, not smell. All three are fixed.

I haven't heard of Bach Flower remedies, Feliway or the Comfort Zone "thingy".

At this point I will try anything to help my friends get along.

A friend of mine suggested kitty prozac for the female so that she can't fight and to show her that the boys won't attack her... somehow I don't think this would be effective.
