Hair Loss

My cat has been overly grooming himself and has hair loss from the base of his tail up his back. Does anyone know what could cause this? He doesn't seem to be in any pain, and this is the only place on his body that the hair is going.

connib, please get him checked out by the vet. THere could be something medical;fleas,ringworm,thyroid problems...Just to say a few. The vet will be able to see and do the tests to better figure out what is wrong. The faster you get him there the faster his treatment will be. Make sure you have a list of what you give him and the amount.

How is his water intake would be another good thing to know before going. Please check to see if there is a cut there that he is scratching at or if its infected.
