starting last night- Both of our cats are drinking alot of water.
they have started laying next to the water bowls frequently.
They don't have any other unusual symptoms.
Until last week we had been feeding a dry food ( vet prescribed)
that is now on the recall list. We called the vet emegency clinic and
they told us to wait until Mon. morning and take them to our vet. Maybe I'm over-reacting but I'm worried. Any Thoughts? Thank You
Beth
Cats drinking large amounts of water
Re: Cats drinking large amounts of water
Beth I surely hope it is nothing to worry about, but I would have the Vet run tests for kidney function. Traci announced that Hill's will reimburse your Vet up to $100 for the tests, so make sure you ask him about that. I hope it turns out OK...

Beth are these the cats or one of the cats that you want to loose weight? If so DO NOT start that untill you speak with vet and this sorted out first ok.
I am so sorry you have to be scared with this. Hugs to you all. Get appt monday and get them tested for sure and then we'll work on the weight if they are ones you were talking about.

My Hyperthyroidism is acting up but feeling a bit better since on my medicine.

Increase in water intake and urination is one of the signs associated with the sickness related to the tainted food. If it were me, I wouldn't wait until Monday.

Re: Cats drinking large amounts of water
I was trying to edit last night and couldnt and naturally when I tried to PM you my kids went nuts and I had to chase them LOL. I agree with Cleo and they should be seen asap.
Call the ER clinic again and TELL them that your cats are showing signs IF they refuse for you to go there ask them why? They might want to take the responsibility of this and that is why they are blowing you off.
Even if this had nothing to do with the food this can be serious and shouldnt wait till monday when and if you can get an appt. Make sure you get the persons name that you speak with at the clinic about this. The faster you get a diagnosis the faster treatment can come and the better chance of them getting better happens.
If they tell you again dont come in ask why and ask if it is because they are trying to save you money. If they wont do the test there and you walk in then it is a waste of time but find out the reasons behind anything they say.
I think that was all i was going to say, computer is working fine now so if i think of anything else i'll edit
good luck prayers to you

Re: Cats drinking excessive water
Thank you all for your help. I took them to the ER and had the blood testing done. I also took them to our vet this AM. He's doing some additional testing and will call me tomorrow with the results. He seems to think that they will be OK. Again thank you for all the support and advice.

I'm glad you took them in...I was going to suggest not waiting too. I sure hope they are alright...
