Update on Buddy on Prozac

Post by beth1954 »

I think the Prozac has helped Buddy a little bit. I have not seen him bite his tail at all, and he is a little less aggressive toward the cats. He HATES pill time, but we always follow it up with cat treats that he's crazy about. It's kind of expensive, though. But since it helps him, I will pay for the Prozac!

Hi. Do you know about Pill Pockets? It's a little treat with a hole in it. One of my cats eats it all the time, and I've never given her a pill without it. The other one eats it only sometimes. They sell them at my vet and at the pet store. It's about $6 for 45 of them.

It seems to me that they would taste the pill when they bite into it....does that happen? Prozac is really really bitter. He wouldn't eat it when I crushed it into some wet food.

That hasn't happened. Every time they eat the whole thing completely. Muffin just eats it, and Chester sometimes eats it or rejects the whole thing, as he does with other treats. They never ate part of it. The vet highly recommended it.

Hi Beth, I'm glad to hear that Buddy is doing well with the Prozac and I hope he will continue to do well....I love good news! Has he had any more seizures?
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Thanks for asking!

I have only witnessed about 2 of the mini-seizures since I started him on Prozac. I'm gone at least 8 hours a day. My mother is here, though. She said she hasn't seen any. I used to see about 2 a day and that was just after work or on the weekend. I think he's doing so much better. Not quite as crabby, and not quite as "clingy."

Oh beth this is great, I know how worried you have been and well this seems to be working and I do hope that this will do the trick. Please make sure you keep vet updated with anything that is going on and keep a daily log for you and for vet just to see if there are changes. Thank you for keeping us updated.

Yeah I was thinking about calling the vet today to let him know. I think putting cats on Prozac is a little new for him, so he'll be interested to know.
