My Laser Declawing experience

Post by adkirk »

I just wanted to share my laser declawing experience with everyone. My Madison shreds everything. She is 2 1/2 years old and over 12.5 lbs. I took her to get laser declawed (on advice from a friend) and she has had a hard time with it.

First - because she is large and older, she had to get dissolvable stiches which is not normal for all cats who are laser declawed.

She stayed 2 nights at the vet. I gave her Buprinex for 5 days and antibiotics for 7. She has to have recycled newspaper litter for 2 weeks.

She also has to wear and E- ring around her head for 2 weeks after the surgery so she won't lick her paws to death.

She is limping on one paw 8 days after surgery.

Overall she is doing okay now, I was surprised at how tough the laser declawing was for her but I'm thinking it was because she is overweight and older. I wouldn't do it again, I felt really bad about it, but I love her and she is playing now and i think we will both recover.

If your kitty is limping, you should have that paw checked by the vet.

My one cat Chloe tends to shred things, even my sofa, but I do not care and i just trim her claws once a week!!

I hope your cat continues to heal and is back to herself soon.

I had a cat declawed ONCE MANY years ago and vowed I would NEVER ever do it again...Tigger was my very first cat and I just wrongly assumed that since he would be indoor only he needed to be declawed...I regret it still to this day, even though Tigger is now long gone across the Rainbow Bridge...

prayers that your kitty is doing better by now, and if not, yes please get him in for a checkup to make sure there is nothing left behind that is bothering him, or infection or anything else going on...
