the same amoxicillin that was used a few YEARS ago...how OLD was it?!?!....definitely expired....

how old are you?...Can you find ANY way to get the cat to the vet yourself?...And work a plan with the vet to make payments, or offer to clean kennels there or whatever to work off the bill for that kitten...it really needa vet...

believe me...I have handraised many many kittens...from birth...and many have not made it...some have...but I know for fact that they can turn within hours and be fine then gone...

you cannot wait on this...

Oh no, that amox. was that old, i dont believe..My moms a pharmacist, so i think she knows what shes doing when it comes to medicine... im only 15 and i dont have my permit.. theres really no way w/out my parents :( Other thing is.... my vet is out of town.. like 15 or 30minutes away by interstate or highway.. so i couldnt exactly ride my bike or anything to work for him to treat my kitty.

I've been telling my father just that... "they can be acting fine one moment, then gone not long later"... and i dont think he's exactly getting the point. Ill wonder what he'll think when i take the kitty along on Saturday and he finds out something was wrong, of course i hope there isnt anything wrong, but with whats been going on with my kitty, i doubt that.

Amoxicillin for pets needs to be prescribed by a vet. You can't just give a human amoxicillin tablet to a pet, it needs to be dosed according to weight of the pet, and the mg amount of the tablet needs to be reduced. Your mom being a pharmacist knows better, and she shouldn't be doing this. We're talking about a tiny 6-week-old kitten who may not be able to tolerate what your mom is giving, and if she's giving a too large doseage, she could be seriously harming your kitten. You need to tell the vet what has been done, because if you don't and he doesn't know how much is already in her system, she could be overdosed! And besides that, the vet probably wouldn't prescribe amoxicillin anyway, but most likely clavamox instead, in a very small dose!

Your vet is the only one who can examine and treat your kitten appropriately, we can't. A message forum on the net is not a substitute for a vet

Let's try this: Any chance you can get your dad to read our urgings here? Have him sit down at the computer, take a look at the things Traci has said. Let him know that she's an extremely experienced vet tech, and that the rest of us have decades of collective pet ownership experience... maybe it would help him realize that your kitten very much needs to see a vet. Worth a try?

Sorry for the late up date... well, i took the kitty to the vet... Pretty much forced my dad to make an appointment lol... Kitty had ear mites, which we got taken care of... the vet gave her a dewormer... and now my kitty's on amoxicillian morning and evening.. she's doing fine :)... hyper and hungry as usual... and apparently the vet thought of her to be around 4-weeks old....said she "looked too small to be 6-weeks.. lol but she had a pretty big belly" lol

the big belly was most likely due to the worms filling it up...glad you got her in and are getting her the care and meds she needs...did the vet say what was cauing the black poops?...Were you able to take a sample in for the vet to look at?

Did the vet talk about a milk replacement formula for her for a bit longer since she is still so young?...and then a good quality KITTEN food such as IAMS?

And you also got earmmite drops that you need to administer into her ears, probably every 3 days for a couple of weeks to keep them form returning, right?

take care and keep us posted on how she is doing

well her black poop actually stopped.. so i wasnt able to get a sample... i forgot what the vet said  oops!

The vet gave her eat mite medicine that he said it should just require this one dose.. and they should all be gone(he said it'd be a bit more expensive that the others.. but my kitty had other things.. i didnt want to have to keep giving her all these medicines)... and as i see it, my kitty doesnt itch at all in her ears anymore.:)

In the future, when you know your kitten or adult cat is ill, don't wait to get them seen immediately by your vet. As you've learned, your kitten was younger than previously thought, and desperately needed treatment. Our pets need to be examined by our vets regularly and at the first sign of illness or change in behavior so they can receive the most effective treatment and be able to recover quickly. In a tiny young kitten, you MUST be extremely careful, they require different needs than adult cats. Be responsible and get your kitten regular veterinary care and checkups, all through her life!
