Mean Cat please HELP

Post by MissLisaAnn »

Can someone anyone please HELP.
Here is the situation I have two cats and a dog.
The dog came first. He is 12 now and has seizures which he is on medication for.
Next came Mittins. She was a kitten found by my daughter. She never really took to the dog but everything seemed ok. Then Katie showed up at my house ( an adult cat spayed)
This was over 5 years ago, We finally had mittins ( then 7 pounds) spayed. ( She was peeing in the house and was in heat all the time) That was three years ago. Now she weighs 17 pounds and is MEAN. She waits for the dog and attacks him every chance she gets. She used to just do it when he got within range but now she actually goes after him.

To make matters worse my daughter showed up with two kittens !!! Yikes they are the cutest things in the world and I have no problem keeping them but She also goes after them as if they were mice. She hisses, growls and looks like she is stalking them. It has been 3 weeks and no change. We keep the kittens in my daughters room but try to have evening get together sessions. It is not going well.... Not only is she now back to peeing in the house, stalking the dog at every oportunity but she is just waiting to have the kittens for dinner.... What do I do ?????
And yes I have three litter boxes that are cleaned three times a week. ](*,)

I can feel for your situation, having had a cat or two who does the agressive thing. First thing I recommend is a complete vet check. Unless your kitty is one of the larger breeds (Maine Coon etc) 17 lbs is overweight. Your vet can advise you if this is the case and how to carefully help your kitty lose weight slowly. She may also have other underlying health issues that are causing her stress. If she checks out OK (with bloodwork and all) then my second guess is that it's simply too much stress on her. Has the dog ever been aggressive toward her? Sometimes cats do what is called "displaced aggression". In other words, something upsets them and they take it out on the easiest target. It's happened in my house when my oldest female sees another cat outside...she will then go full force after on of the other cats. You can keep her seperated from those she is attacking, but be sure she gets plenty of attention. The fact that she is peeing and showing aggressive behavior tells me she is ill or is stressed. It can work out with time and patience...

Ideally the litter boxes should be cleaned out daily...not emptied and scrubbed daily, but at least scooped daily.

But I'll emphasize again that the first thing you should do is have her checked for any health problems. Good luck...hang in there

Thanks for you reply.
I am heading to the vets this week Iam more concerned about the weight. When I asked the vet last time they said it was normal after being spayed. But the poor dog does not go near her he is afrraid of her... I will keep you posted !!
