Hi Cleo,
Yep, she walked in front of my car one day, looking like she was going someplace to die. I got out of my car and figured if she came to me when i called out to her, i'd help her, if not, then i was going to leave her be. Well, we all know what she did. :) She's a tough one i'll say.

Bless you for rescuing her. She is a cutie and I see how she got her name with those big eyes...(love the color). I can understand how you can't just run over there...that is a long trip. They seem very caring to take the time to send you those pictures. Hope she is home with you soon - bet she and YOU will be happy. Mompaws

Awww, she's beautiful. Thank you so much for rescuing her. I can see how attached you are to her and I hope too that she will be home soon. Thank your vet for us for providing the pics; that was very nice of her to do that! I hope she is recovering well and all this will soon be just a memory!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

well, owlie's finally back with us and she's doing great. we're still trying to get her and kiki (my boyfriend's other cat) used to each other but other than that its been pretty smooth sailing.

i learned at the hospital (when we picked her up) that she is actually 4 years old, so she's full grown! she the tiniest full grown cat i've ever seen, she's like a big kitten. also, the surgeon had never seen a polyp the size of owlie's before and he might publish her ct scan in his next book.

the bill wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be, i think they shaved off a lot of expenses due to my situation (traveling a long distance, saving a stray). they also had the expense of her having to stay the extended time taken off of the bill.

she's got an appetite like you wouldn't believe, she's always on the lookout for anything edible :). she scarfs down her half can of moist food in less than a minute. the vet said that one small can of moist food a day was enough for her (150 calories per day). they say she's at a healthy weight at 4.5 lbs, she is so tiny.

the vet advised us to keep one cat in one part of the house and the other in another part of the house and then switch them around. i guess so they can get use to each other's scents.-000000009 (owlie wanted you all to know this :)) sometimes we do allow them in the same room together, so far there is curiousity and a bit of hissing once in awhile.

thanks again for everyone's help and kind words. owlie wouldn't be as healthy and happy as she is right now without the help of this forum.

Soooooooo glad to hear she is home and doing well!!! That's great too that the expenses were taken into consideration and your bill wasn't that bad.

If you haven't seen this yet, you can try these suggestions for introducing the two cats.

That's terrific that she's home and doing so well. A good appetite is a very good sign! Your vet sounds like a treasue, especially since she cut down your bill some. Every little bit helps these days!
I hope she will be completely recovered soon!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Upsun, I'd feed her as much as she wants, and don't stick to canned only. I would suggest free-feeding dry food, and offering smaller amounts of canned, maybe. She really is a tiny cat, and due to her health problems after all this time, she needs as much nutrition as possible. I don't agree with your vet that one can a day is enough, not knowing the size of the can, or the brand/type, and given her size/weight, I'd free-feed her dry food (please ensure it's a high quality food). When you say she scarfs down her food, it's obvious she is very hungry and needs her nutrients.

I tried feeding owlie more food and she still wants more. it's like it's endless. she's even started getting into the trash can.

to top things off she's also in heat. how long are cats usually in heat and do you think she'll be ready for another surgery so soon after her last?

it's like everything is happening at once with owlie. i just want her to be able to relax and get use to her new home.

Did any of the vets ever deworm her? Was a fecal ever done? (don't deworm her yourself, as over-the-counter meds are worthless and some are dangerous for cats). Worms could be part of the reason she seems so hungry.

Again, free-feed her a high quality adult cat food in the dry form (leave it out for her at all times), and try reducing the amounts of the canned, or, only give a bit in the morning and evening. Remember, she probably couldn't smell her food for the longest time, and now that she can, she is probably enjoying her mealtimes.

The heat cycle can last up to 7 days, and she'll keep going into heat until she's spayed. Providing she is healing well from surgery, and pending a followup exam by your vet, you can probably schedule a spay in another month or so, your vet has to make that decision based on her recovery and her overall health.

yep, she's already been dewormed. i will try leaving dry food out for her, i just worry about her eating way to much and getting sick or overweight.

she seems to be healing very quickly from her operations. i will take her to the vet in the near future to ask about spaying. they do need to be out of heat in order for them to be spayed right?

she didn't go into heat the entire four months we had her when she was sick, i guess that infection was preventing a lot.
