will let Traci or others cover any possibilities...but you should take your kitten to a Vet as soon as possible to have it checked and to get proper treatment as needed, ok...

D~ is right, your kitten should be seen by a vet. More than likely your kitten has either an eye or upper respiratory infection. The good news is that your vet can prescribe medication that is both inexpensive and effective. It's very unlikely that the infection will clear up on its own, I would strongly recommend that you have your kitten seen by a vet as soon as you can.

It's sad that his mommy died, it's so kind of you to care for him. Please post an update and let us know how the little guy is doing!!

Yellow Stuff

I'm sure Traci can help you better, but I'd suspect that the yellow discahrge is from an ifection,, possible Upper Respiratory Infection. Your kitten should have immediate vet care as it can fade quickly, especially without mamma's milk giving it antibodies.
There are some good links on "Kittens", "Kittening", "Fading Kitten Syndrome" and "URIs" uner the Feline section of my website listed towards the bottom left of the board-see menu. There is also an excellent kittens page on this site..see upper left board--menu.
But please don't delay in having the little one seen by your vet. And if the kitten has any siblings in your care they may also be susceptible to this condition. If they are not in your care, you may want to search for them. Generaly where there's one, there's more. I hope the little guy will be okay and please keep us posted, ok?
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Lenux, the others are right, your kitten needs to see your vet immediately. Upper respiratory infections (URI's) are common in tiny young kittens. But, they can also be serious enough that he could lose an eye if the infection is too severe. Sometimes they can be fatal if they progress without treatment.

At the moment, you can take a soft dampened cool cloth to gently wipe away discharge from the corners of his eyes. But do no more than that. Get kitten to your nearest ER vet hospital immediately. Your vet can then tell you how serious this might have become. He can prescribe eye ointment as Ron mentioned, and he will probably prescribe a low-dose of oral antibiotics to combat secondary infections.

Please don't wait. Kittens with URI's often cannot smell their food, and therefore will not eat, you can't risk that. Get him to an ER vet, ASAP.
