You say you don't know what makes me say outdoor cats don't live as long as indoor cats. If you'll look at the bottom of the page on the link Traci gave in the previous post, you'll see the facts there.
I have seen the same facts (or very similar ones) in lots of different places, including books on cat care written by vets and magazines devoted to cat care, as well as in newspaper columns written by vets.
I used to believe in indoor/outdoor cats, too, before I got familiar with those facts. While believing in indoor/outdoor cats, I had one kitten who was destroyed by dogs and another cat (a year old) who was run over by a car.
It can be very sad to lose a kitty so tragically.

Re: I need serious help....
I had a cat JUST like your dear Whisper...he was killed by a dog not too long ago though ...but anyway he was raised on an island and was raised by dogs and after that pretty much raised himself so when HE wanted love...then you could pet him otherwise he wanted somewhere warm to rest and food and water. when I got my new kitten Winkie he was so angry...he didn't come home for 3 days (he was an inside/outside cat) and when he did he was REALLY aggressive toward the kitten, he would smack her and growl and it just wasn't pretty he would sometimes growl at us but he never hurt us but he was very violent towards any cats brought into the house....because he never saw another cat until he was about 3 years old. But part of it is he was asserting his dominance the whole "this is my house, my people, if you don't follow my rules and worship me I will hurt you" and once the younger cat stopped trying to play with him he mellowed out...but we also gave him loads more attention even if he only let us talk to him most of the time :p but just lots of extra love and letting them fight it out to a point...making sure it doesn't get out of hand but giving whisper room to lay down the law a bit since Whisper was there first and is older but that's just my suggestion. By the way it took Kooter about 2-3 months to get used to having a cat around just letting you know. Good Luck!
