Hi
I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for ways to alleviate boredom for my cat. We have recently moved into a much smaller house, and the weather is too cold for my cat to go outside. We have one other cat, and they do play together, but not that often.
I always sit with my cat, play with him and he sleeps on my bed.
Nothing has changed in terms of his health, but he has been going to the washroom (stool) outside of his litter box on occasion. He has never had a problem with this before, and the box is cleaned frequently.
Sometimes, he even passes stool while walking.
Nothing has changed in terms of his health, and he is up to date on his vaccinations. He also had dentistry done less than 6 months ago.
I feel like he is really bored, and I was curious if anyone had any ideas. I know he is getting older, but for a very athletic cat who hasn't had any health problems in the past, I don't think it should be that big of an issue.
Thanks for your help,
J.

Re: Bored Cat? Please help
Why do you think he is bored?
How old is he?
When was his last vet checkup? The litterbox issue may need to be addressed by your vet, he may also suggest discussing kitty's diet.
How recent was the move, and have any other changes developed with your kitty...i.e., depression, withdrawal, decreased appetite, etc. If so, you need to get him seen by your vet immediately. Moving/relocating is the number one cause of stress in cats, which can lead to the symptoms noted above, which can then lead to a serious health condition known as hepatic lipidosis, if not detected and treated aggressively, this can be a fatal condition.
We do not advocate outdoors for cats. Indoors ONLY.

For some reason, my cats LOVE to play with a simple paper sack. Hours of fun!
Oh....also the card board tube from a roll of paper towels, once its finished.
My kitten has been very intruiged by watching the tv when I play video games! LOL

Place a bird feeder outside a window where he can watch. It's like cable TV for felines. It will keep them interested for hours. My two jockey for the best viewing positions.
It does take a while for the birds to find a new feeder so be patient. They will eventually find the food.
And even if squirrels also find the feeder, that's OK because the cats will also watch them too.

Some tinfoil rolled into a ball is a good toy. I buy little toy mice for my cat too but she always loses them!! We got her a scratching post with things hanging off it which she seems to love too. Cats have incredible imaginations and anything seems to make a good toy.
