rapid tail twitching

Post by Jodi »

Hello!

I have a question for the cat experts out there...my Chessa's tail will occassionally twitch rapidly, and it seems to be coming mostly from the base of her tail and is uncontrollable. Each "episode" only lasts maybe 10 seconds or so, and she is acting normally otherwise when they occur. She does not appear to be in pain...Is this something I should be concerned about, or see a vet about? Chessa and I thank you!!!

What exactly is she doing when this occurs.....during rest/sleep, or during playtime, contentment or ??

Traci,

It happens when she is walking up to me when she wants me to pet her, or while I am petting her. She is always standing when it occurs....

Are you sure it isn't contentment? I don't think you should be concerned, since the tail can move from the base as well as middle and tip, etc. If it seems painful to her, or the skin on her back "ripples", or she doesn't like to be touched in a particular area, probably no cause for concern. If any of the above apply however, might want to check with your vet.
