Is Turkey OK for Cats?

Post by yomav »

Last Thanksgiving I gave my kittens (year and a half old) turkey and I think the tryptophan made them completely fall asleep! I didn't give them that much, but they LOVED it. I'd love to give them more this year, but wondered if it was okay for them.

This is not urgent at all -- just wondering. Thanks!

It's never a good idea to give cats table scraps. People food is typically too high in fat for them, plus it just makes them want more. If you want to give your kitty something special, healthy treats will make her every bit as happy as a chunk of turkey. That's what they're designed for. :)

Turkey is rich in fats, which can lead to severe diarrhea in pets. Don't give table scraps at all.
