Hello all,
I haven't been around for a few months because we haven't had any problems with Mollie <touches wood!>
Anyway, we live in the UK, right down south, and in summer the temperatures get quite high. Mollie is an indoor cat, so this reduces the amount of windows and doors we can have open. I'm sure she would hop out given half the chance, as every time we open a window she shoots straight up to it.
It's not fair on her or us to have to live with the heat (although even with the windows open there doesn't seem to be much breeze) so I was just wondering whether anyone had any ideas as to how we could have the windows open but not have her scuttling off!
We have a tower fan in the living room, which helps a little but we just want to make it more comfortable for her, and us!
Anyone have any bright ideas?!
Thanks
Jo

Well, I live in India and it's most of the year too hot to have the windows closed at night. We have mosquito screens in front of our windows, but not the fabric type of mosquito nets but a kind of metal mesh, that opens like a window (if you want to), but which we keep closed when we open the window. Does that make sense?
This might be expensive to fix especially when you have a large house but I have not found any other solution.
Maybe contact these people

Or fit an air conditioning, but that's equally expensive.

Are you saying your windows do not have screens? If not, perhaps it would be good to get screens for them.
You could also try adding more fans in the home to circulate the fresh air.

Thank you for your replies
The tower fan just seems to move the hot air round! We don't have screens in this country.
We have thought of trying to fashion some kind of wire mesh insert into the window frame to allow us to have the windows open, perhaps we will go to the DIY store after work to see what we can find!
We could buy an a/c unit from the local department store, but it's £200, and we just can't afford that

It's the UK, Traci. Wet and windy most of the year (windows shut tight!)Traci wrote:Are you saying your windows do not have screens? If not, perhaps it would be good to get screens for them.
I'm surprised you need a fan this summer! Tip from an experienced hot climate person: sit with a wet T-Shirt under the fan, it cools you better. I also make the dogs and cats a little wet sometimes when it gets all too bad.
