I wouldn't attempt that again in the future, you don't know if you're actually causing more harm than good. (such as pushing or lodging an obstruction even further. You could also risk infection in the trachea or esophagus.)....the best bet in cases like that is to an ER vet pronto.

Thanx for the concern. Scooby 2 is doing just fine and already growing by leaps and bounds. Mom snuck a peice of real turkey into the box and he found a small peice of it. As for the asperiating of him with a bulb syringe used in the proper way can only help if there is in fact something in the throat or nose. Never use by forcing the object down but use in the direction of getting the object out of the mouth.

My point was for other readers' benefit as well, especially for those who are inexperienced.

Using a bulb syringe is usually only necessary for newborns who may still have the sac fluid in their mouth/nose, etc. For the experienced, this should not present a problem.

For choking, obstructions, or any other problem that interferes with breathing or airway, a bulb syringe may not be an appropriate tool to use. In your case, it worked, but it did not remove the obstruction. It doesn't matter if the bulb syringe allowed an upward 'sucking' motion, the fact is there was an obstruction, and attempting to remove an obstruction without veterinary help could present more problems, such as pushing/moving the obstruction further, or blocking the ariway altogether. Tissue injury and infection can result from any type of obstruction removal, even in the veterinary clinic environment, so the vet attempts to use the safest method possible, and checks for any sign of tissue injury, or potential for infection.

I'm not saying your method was "wrong". I'm simply saying that for inexperienced owners, emergency veterinary attention/direction is the best course of action. You had indicated your kitten was drooling, unable to eat, etc, and of course we did not know the severity of the problem.... so in the future, and, for the benefit for other readers, it is best to get veterinary direction/attention to such situations.

i have read this thread and glad you kitten is growing and doing well. I would have not been as calm i think. I am a retired nurse and am able to work on people and not break a beat but let my kitten hunter cry wrong and i need a valium.

Yeah when it comes to the people in my life they can take a back seat sometimes, but when it comes to my animals you better get out of the way. It takes more than one Valium to calm me down. LOL. You all have been so great thanx again. I know where to get answers anytime I have questions about my pets. You all seem to love your pets and all pets it seems as much as I do. Animals before people I think, at least your animals show their love and apperciation unconditionally.
