Our litter of kittens are 3-4 weeks old. We just noticed that one of the kittens has what seems to be extra skin on its lower abdomen which sags down. I'm worried that it may be something more serious (like its intestines). Should I take it to the vet or is this something common?
Its alittle hard to discern exactly what you mean, but one of two things, and should be checked by your vet immediately. First, a hernia, and second, poor nutrition. Don't wait on this, get your kitten to your vet ASAP, not another day later.
Just to let everyone know, I took the kitten to the vet today and she said that it just seems to be an extra fat pocket (that usually develops later in life). She said its intestinal wall felt intact and it should be just fine. Hope this post may help anyone with a similar experience.
It would be really rare for fatty skin in such a young kitten. Please keep a close eye on him, make sure his appetite is not decreasing, watch his attitude and energy level and of course, watch that skin area carefully. Should any unusual sign of illness or weakness occur, don't hesitate to get him back to your vet immediately.
