my cat has a urinary tract infection. I took him in to the vet yesterday and he recieved a shot. Also our vet was able to extract some urine from him then.We were given amoxicilain to give him twice a day which he has taken pretty well. But my concern is he still can barely walk and is licking that area quite a bit. He just practically lays in his water bowl. But i don't think he is urinating normally.Except for on the arm of our sofa. Not sure if that was before or after the vet. How long before he is back to normal?
We also changed his food to what the vet recommended.Thank you for any advice you may have.
Shouldn't my cat appear better after seeing the vet yesterd?
cats like people are all different. it takes a while for the
antibiotics to take effect, especially if there is a urinary infection. i \'m not sure if he was catherized yesterday or not but you can cath one day and they can still have a problem the next day it there is gravel inside...if he is not perky by tomorrow give a call and see what has heppend ..you vetr will know wht was used and what was don...you can spend years (42 in my case) hoping that all pets are better the next day...but it jst doesn't happen....call tomorrow
I suggest taking him back in NOW, not being able to walk is NOT a common sign of a urinary tract infection, but rather, the start of a blockage. Even if your vet did a cysto and urinalysis, and if crystals weren't seen in that sample, it doesn't mean they are not there!!! (could be higher up in the urethra, plugged)
If kitty is not producing urine, or only tiny drops, if there is blood in the urine, if he's squatting in unusual places, crying out, disoriented, painful in the abdomen, don't wait another minute, get to the nearest ER vet IMMEDIATELY, blockages can be fatal within hours.
