Bump on cat's nose

Post by JessK »

Hello. My 18 month old neutered male cat has a little bump on his nose. For a couple days I just thought the hair was a bit mussed up but now it has become a distinct bump, under the hair. It's sort of like a zit or a wart or something--quite small. I haven't seen any discharge or hair loss or discoloration, and it doesn't seem to hurt or itch him, and he is energetic and eating well. Should I have him checked out by a vet, or do cats just sometimes get facial blemishes, like humans do?

Many thanks for any advice.

PS--he is indoor only and did not hurt his nose in any way that I'm aware of.

I would most definitely get him checked out by a vet right away. One of my cats had a couple bumps on him throughout his body and we let it be until one day, we found one had started to bleed (quite a bit too). Is he sneezing at all? I would book an appointment with the vet and get it checked. :) Let us know about any updates! :)

No bumps, lumps etc should ever go unchecked by your vet....best to play it safe and get your kitten seen immediately.

Thanks for the replies. Jrenter, I read your posts and viewed your pictures, and I looked up information on abscesses, and didn't think it applied to my cat's situation because it seems like they are bigger, and result from wounds.

Why do you ask about the sneezing?? As a matter of fact, he was sneezing a lot two days ago and I was getting worried, but as I didn't see him sneeze yesterday I decided he must've just had a temporary irritant. Are sneezing a bumps related?

Thanks again for info.

Hey, yeah, I know my cats one was quite a bit bigger and resulted from a wound, but still, like Traci said above, no bump should ever go unchecked by your vet. It's like having a lump on your breast. Do you leave it or get it checked?
The reason I asked about sneezing is I looked on the net about bumps on cats nose, etc and saw other people who have the same type of question as yours was and they mentioned that their cats were sneezing a lot.
