Tuxedo update.................

Post by LisaK »

Tux stayed at the vet's on Monday and was tested for diabetes (3 tests)and liver enzyme function. All tests were in normal range. Tux does not fit the normal profile of a cat with Hepatic Lipidosis. He has never stopped or slowed down where eating is concerned and has not lost any weight. My vet thinks the FIV is involved in this. He said the FIV could be affecting his metabolism and immune system. He's on antibiotics, milk thistle and Felovite II and will get retested in a little while.

Forgive my asking, Lisa, but is your vet now saying this isn't HL? is he simply treating with antibiotics only?

In any case, it is wonderful news on the lab results, I can imagine how relieved you are at this point.

he's not saying it isn't HL - I questioned whether this diagnosis could be wrong and he said according to the ultrasound and the cytology report, that's what it is. It's just weird that he didn't stop eating like most HL cats do. I asked about changing his diet and he said he wouldn't do that at this point. Tux has to stay on antibiotics, milk thistle and FeloviteII for a while and then get retested.

It is unusual regarding his appetite and no anorexia, true enough, that is really rare. The most important thing you can do is watch for any inconsistencies in his appetite, weight loss, or dehydration and jaundice, you know all this already, just wanted to stress the importance.

It sounds like Tux is really a strong boy, can you keep us updated on his progress.....

Still hoping for the best for Tux. Hope you and your vet can really get to the bottom of things with him!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Lisa, that is great about the tests...I hope Tux keeps on eating and doing well.
He is so so adorable!! He and my Zorey could be twins :) I want to kiss that little pink nose...so you'll have to do it for me.

The very best of wishes continue for Tux!!
Hug,

I'm happy to hear he's doing ok. Hopefully, they can figure out what's wrong with him and treat him. Good luck!
