I have read many articles on this, including the ones on this site, but juts wanted some first hand knowledge and advice from those who have had it done.
Zima, my 10 month old, is getting spayed and declawed tomorrow morning. She will be kept at the vets overnight, and I was looking for some tips and other ideas to make her recovery at home more comfortable.
Any advice and tips are greatly appreciated.
I do understand many people are against declawing, and I have weighed the pros and cons of this, but have decided this is something that needs done.
Thanks in adavance, and thanks again for all the other great advice and tips I've received here!

Re: Post Op Care
Sorry, but there was one thing I wanted to add but forgot. Any tips on giving a cat her medication? I've heard many horror stories and jokes on giving cats pills, but never any advice.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Re: Post Op Care
Spay: keep her comfortable, and restrict her activity for at least 4 days, she should self-limit herself. Watch her incision daily for any signs of swelling, oozing of blood or pus, bruising, in which case, notify your vet at once.
Be prepared she may not feel like eating much for at least 24 hours post-op, but should resume her normal eating habits by then.
Declaw: there are emergency/post-op care tips on our Declaw page
Controversial arguing about declawing is not permitted here, but I would like to suggest you speak to your vet in greater detail before you proceed. Is there any other reason you are adamant about nail trimming or other solutions first?

I was very conflicted over this, but the pros did out weigh the cons on this one. I have actually talked to 2 vets regarding this, my current in great deal. I have considered both trimming and softpaws as options, but unfortunately my cat will not be held in anyway. It is a great struggle just to get a good look at her paws, let alone trying to have a safe hold of them to trim them/aply caps. It is unsafe for the both of us. She loves attention and to be petted, but panics whenever she is held or picked up and will never sit on your lap.
I work a great deal of hours, so during the day and some evenings i am not home, so any discipline/traiining is difficult to enforce at all times.
My vet and I both agree this was the best option.
I am just making sure she is comfortable throughout.
Re: Post Op Care
if you need to proceed with the procedure ask your vet about a laser declaw, more pricy but far worth it for your cat.
