My cat urinates in the bathroom sink

Post by Lena »

Hello everyone,

I have a kitty question here. My new cat is 13 months old, she is the cutest, rarest cat I have ever had in my lifetime. About 5 months ago me and my children noticed that when we use the bathroom, our cat named Cookie will jump in the bathroom sink and urinate, smell it and then jump out when she is done. What does this mean LOL I think it is really cute but very, very strange LOL If we get off the toilet while she is squatting down in the sink to urinate she will jump out and not even go, we have to be sitting on the toilet or she won't do it LOL any comments on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lena loves her kitties!

When was the last time that she was at the vet? And did you mention this behavior? Inappropriate urination is often a sign of a urinary tract or bladder infection. I would get her into the vet to rule that out. If that isn't the problem, I would start looking at her litterbox situation. My male will not defecate in the litterbox if it hasn't been cleaned that day. He will go right beside the box.

Yes, she has no urinary tract infection and she does this even after the litter box has been scrubed and fresh litter put in LOL, could it just be that she knows that this is where we go to the bathroom at so she wants to do it as well LOL

My cat Mythilee does that too. But she goes in the kitchen sink and somehow manages to go directly over the hole. We also were concerned that it was a UTI or some other problem. And she does it even when the litter is clean also... Anyway we took her to the vet for urine analysis etc etc etc (numerous times) before we decided that she just prefers the sink to the litter...

Hello to all, first time reader AND post... :-)

And YES, my cat has a similar problem. She is a spayed, 4 year old mixed breed, and I love her dearly...and she knows it! LOL She was gotten as a kitten by some friends of a friend, then they had her declawed....only to decide they no longer wanted her after about 6 months. Being the soft-heart I am, I took her in, and have not regretted a minute of it. BUT, the problem is: she tends to urinate & deficate most anywhere. Not related to "territory marking", No health probs or UTI, and is provided with a clean enviroment and fresh litter often.

I am just wondering, and asking due to lack of knowledge pertaining to such....Would the "Natural" type cat litters make a difference??? And if so, does anyone have any experience with it?? I know that clumping litter is out, and ANY quality regular cat litter has no different effects? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all, and Have a Great Day!!! :-)

have you tried different/multiple locations? perhaps the box is in an area she is uncomfortable with for those purposes.
