stress or cause for alarm!?

Post by rick »

Long story short. We had to pregnant mothers outside and have since brought them into the house to raise the litters in a clean and safe environment. However, the delivery times were about 2 weeks apart. Mom#1 is now acting very strange and we can not figure out if it is something serious or just the fact we brought another cat into the environment. She did hiss at Mom#2 for a few days. But now she just is acting really strange and has a sensitive rear (hissing when touched) and a horrible odor. She seems to be eating and drinking water. It is really hard to tell whether she has diahrrea or not? Any suggestions? please help.

Mom#1 is not even a year old herself

Rick, please get her to your vet immediately....she could have a serious infection resulting from delivery (i.e., retained placenta, infection from other sources, etc). If she has changed eating and litterbox habits, no matter how slight, if she isn't eating, isn't attending to her newborns, and is losing weight, etc, don't hesitate in the least to get her seen promptly by your vet. Time is of the essence, her newborns are depending on her for sufficient milk production and for optimal health...if she has an infection, this can pass through her milk to the newborns, not something you want to occur. Also watch the kittens closely to ensure they are each getting adequate nursing support, growing and developing normally.

Please get her seen ASAP.
