Cat has mammary gland cancer

Post by Emma's Mommy »

My 7 year old female cat, Emma, was just diagnosed with mammary cancer. She had surgery three days ago and it was very tramatic for her (and me). I have a question about the vet's recommendations for treatment. I have been reading and know that the type of cancer she has is very bad and that if her tumors return, her prognosis is grim. However, the vet recommended that if she does develop more tumors, I should have them removed! I don't understand this. Everything I've read states that if the cancer returns, there really is no hope. I can't see putting my poor kitty through another surgery when the cancer has a high probablity of returning. Has anyone had experience with this? I just don't know what to think.

i wouild have them removes as theyform but at the same time a chest X-ray is necessary to see if it has metastesized to the lungs...if not then get them removed as the from and have the whole chain removed, ie if one is in the fron or second nipple area, have the entire three removed, if in the back have the two removed, ( i may have this backwords but it is best to remove the functioning chain....reather than one gland at a time;.l
