my kitty

Post by neebs »

Hello. I am new to this and my cat seems to be having serious problems. I will start from the beginning. We recieved her from a farm and she has always been afraid of people. Except me. She will come to me whenever. She wouldn't hide out or anything, but she wouldn't go to anyone. A few weeks ago I noticed she had scabs on the back of her neck. I have another cat and they never fight. She is also an indoor cat. Then the scabs moved to her spine, mainly on the spot where her tail starts. Then I started to notice her having fits. I am not sure how to decribe them. She has itching fits. Where she will flip and twist her body to itch a spot. Once she peed while she did this. We updated her flea medicine to see if that fixed the problem. It didn't fix it. It is just getting worse. So I made a vet appointment and started to get her ready an hour in advance. Because she had become more afraid. Of me. She stopped coming upstairs and she stopped coming to me. So I took my time trying to get her to come to me so I could take her to her vet. I finally managed to get her but as I was putting her in her cat carrier she scratched me and managed to get away. I had to cancel the appointment and told the vet I will call when I can get her close enough to me to bring her in. Since then I haven't seen her but maybe twice. And I am finding wads of hair. I managed to see her the other day and she has a bald spot on her back. Just for a split second. I am so troubled my this. Is she somewhere suffering? She has now found new hiding spots in the basement ceiling and I can her hear having her itching fits up there but i can't get to her. How can I help my poor kitty? Oh, I forgot to mention my brother n law saw her on the stairs and she let him pet her, but then bit him and scratched his hand. That is what happened when she peed. I was petting her and when I petted her spot right where the tail starts she flipped over and twisted her body to itch that spot and peed. So I was afraid to touch her after that. I have been trying to get her to come out. She has been eating and drinking. She has also lost weight. She is become so I can see her bones and feel them. And she is a long haired cat. I am so upset about this. I love her so much but feel worthless. I don't know what to do. My vet wouldn't give me any advice until they see her. But I can't get her. help me please, but mainly help me help my cat. I don't want her to be suffering. And my other cat...is this going to start happening to her if I can't catch Bobby (my kitty with the troubles)? She is up to date on shots. Thank you for any help.

you just might try to catch her in a pillow case rather than put her in a box...they usually settle down once they are in the case..or if needbe , and needbe is that she has got to be seent to make a diagnosis...if there are any fishermen in the house or area, a fish net is also a good capture item...

davet is right. You really need to catch her and have her seen by your vet. The itching fits and hair loss could be from any number of things. Here is a link that will list various causes.

I would suggest you do whatever you can to catch your kitty. If she becomes too thin too soon, she is at risk of getting hepatic lipidosis, which is a serious liver condition, not easily treated.
I hope you'll catch her soon and that whatever is causing her itchiness will be taken care of. Please let us know how she is doing, ok?
Kitty kisses,
Debbie
