Feral Help

Post by Guest »

Around Thanksgiving I noticed a feral looking thru thr dumpster at work. I observed him for a few days & decided that because of the bad area & nasty weather I needed to humanely trap him & bring him inside. He was foraging in broad daylight so I knew he was desperate.

Weve got a large 2nd floor office area that is vacant with lots of natural lighting. So after trapping Al (short for Alley Cat, I was gonna name him Will but I didnt think anyone would get it), I took him to our vet for a check-up, shots, & neuter, then released him in his new home. Its secure & warm and I spend as much time as possible with him. Its quiet & away from the rest of our offices and I do not allow anyone to go in without my knowing.

Its now going on 6 months, & Al has warmed up to me somewhat but still will not allow me to get too close. The only time Ive been able to actually pet him is when he was zonked out from his neuter. And he hides if anyone other than myself enters the area. He seems happy & content. He plays with his toys & watches birds thru the windows. But he just will not allow me to get close.

Weve got 4 cats at home & Im afraid adding Al to the mix will be a disaster. I really want to find Al a good home. Im trying but I dont think he will adjust well.

Are some ferals just too wild?

I want to do what's best for Al. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

as you say, some ferala alway remain distant from civilization...you got a tiger by the tail and i suspect you are stuck with a one room cat but i also susp=ect with more time and more socialization she will work out...but it does take time and effort.....good luck
