Pink drainage in eye/ upper res. problem

Post by Cindyloo »

My 1 year 2 month old cat had a severe eye infection in both eyes when I found him as a small kitten. They were closed shut with puss. After medications and a surgery (small incision to remove a little growth on his lower lid that began to grow across his eye) his eyes are almost normal after several months of medications. The left eye is just a little white hazy. You can hardly see it. It still tears though and the vet said it has healed and it tears because there is probabely scarring of the tear duct. The tearing is not clear it is tinged a pink color, almost like if you spilled red wine on a napkin. I want to know what this is and why the vet said it is healed when it seems to me it is not. I am going to have another opinion.

Thank-you for responding so quickly. I too feel that something is not quite right. I also would really like to know if anything can be done to rid of the tearing completely. I'll post what the new vet says after the visit which is on the 12th of April. ) Cin

The vet told me that the cornea is damaged mostly due to the growth that had been rubbing against it before the growth was removed. This irritation causes constant tearing. The pin color could be from iron he said. Now I am going to have the pink colored drainage tested to see if it is blood or iron. He also said everyday people eye drops will help with the tearing.
