bag balm & kittens

Post by mellisadh@aol.com »

My cat has 4 very healthy 2 week old kittys... they are beautiful, but mamma kitty's boobs are looking real bad. I am afraid she may be in pain, and was wondering if it was safe to use bag balm on them or would it hurt the babies?
thanks

Hi Melissa

Is this your cat's first litter of kittens. Sometimes with the first litter the boobs become sore easily.?

Not her first litter. She was a stray when my aunt found her and she had babies. She gave all babies away and I came to visit and fell in love with mama kitty. I took her home and my 28lb male kitty loved her. I went on vacation and she went into heat (had only had her 2 weeks) and my sister accidently let her out... so she has litter #2. I need to put something on them I know they must hurt. She is so little and kittys are big for their age. Would bagbalm hurt babies? I know a lot about cats but not sure on this. Maybe just plaine vaseline....

Melissa, I strongly suggest you get your queen seen by your vet....you need to rule out mastitis, which is a very painful mammary infection and can really get serious (and fatal) if not treated appropriately. Since we don't know to what degree of seriousness her mammaries are at this point, best to get her seen by your vet right away.
