My cat has is neutered male age 15. He was taken in to the vet 3 1/2 weeks ago for constipation and the vet evacutated him, using forceps. I took him and still was not eating or going to the bathroom. I took him back a few days later and was told he had impacted anal glands. The vet expressed his glands and gave him a B12 shot to try and stimulate his appetite. When I got him home, I noticed his hind right rear leg was collapsing under him. I called the vet, who had gone home for the day. The next day his walking was worse and took him to another vet. She took exrays and confirmed mega colon and early stage of arthritis in his upper spine. He was given a cortisone shot and put on laxatone. I took Rudy home and the next day he was walking better and several days later was walking almost completely normal. That is until about a week later. He still was not having bowel movements and his legs were useless.
He does have feeling in his legs and can move them, just no strength. He is urinating. I took him to the vet yesterday and he was given an enema to clean him out, but he is still not walking. The vet doesn't know what is going on. Please help, I am devestated. Thank you in advance and sorry this was so long but wanted to post all info I had.
mega colon & can't won't walk anymore
Re: mega colon & can't won't walk anymore
Seems strange two vets cannot find the problem. I would be lookiing for secondary issues, i.e., primary disease may be megacolon, but any primary disease can be accompanied by a secondary health problem, such as liver disease, kidney disease, heart disease, etc. Were full diagnostics done, and was an ultrasound ever offered to you?
Ask your vet about a high fiber diet, and about lactulose to help with constipation. Cosequin for cats can be discussed if arthritis has indeed been diagnosed by x-rays.
If your vets can't reach a consensus on the problem, ask them to either refer you to a feline specialist or to consult with one on your behalf. Your kitty's health records can be faxed to the specialist in question for further review.

Thanks for your prompt response. First vet did full work up and nothing is in the tests....Second vet reviewed the results and they agreed. They are contacting a specialist for me and will have the info this afternoon when I pick him up...Praying it's just him being a stubborn kitty (which he is)
