Deaf kitten

Post by Iggycat »

If anyone has had a deaf cat or kitten could you please give me any input you have. I adopted a deaf kitten two months ago. He is a sweetie. I have two adult cats that go outside. I have had a terrible time finding any information on deaf cats.

Hopefully you don't plan on allowing your new kitten outdoors? He would never be able to hear an oncoming car (not to mention other outdoor hazards)

Right now he goes out on a leash when I am with him. But if the invisible fence works I could let him stay in my yard. I am wondering if anyone has tried this.

Personally, I wouldn't put much faith into fences like that, since cats can jump them, regardless if they're electric or not. Plus, they were designed for dogs, not cats. Wearing a heavy 'radio-collar' for a cat would prove quite futile.

A harness and lead would be ok, but still need to supervise the outings because a cat can get tangled up in, and strangle, from a harness/leash. Also, if a strange dog entered your yard, attacked your cat (s), they could never get free if tied up to a lead.

traci-
My yard is totally fenced, so no dog can get in. I am always there when he is on the harness and leash.

Davet- He is a white cat with one blue and one golden eye. Even tho he is odd eyed he is deaf in both ears.
