Itchy ears

Post by Homers_mom »

I have a 3 year old male cat. Recently he has been scratching his ears a lot. I noticed a few days ago he had a sore, about the size of a push pin head behind his right ear. This evening I noticed that he has the same size sore in his ear. His ears are clean and no other problems. I am just not sure what do to.
I don't know if this is anything or not, but when I rub his ears he drools a lot and then shakes his head like a dog.
Please any advice would be helpful...

The sores could be hematomas or even a reaction to flea bites (or other bugs). The fact that his ears are clean does not mean he does not have an infection. My cat Sals had clean ears too, hoever she was harboring a bad infection deep within her ears.
I have some links on Ear related problems at the bottom of my Neurological page on my website listed on left side of the board under Favorites (look for Debbie;s Feline Health).
But I would strongly suggest you have your vet look him over. Ear related problems, left untreated, could result in Vestibular Disease and/or deafness.
I hope your kitty's problem isn't serious!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie
