How do I get my cat to come back inside?
Hey everyone, just joined this because I really want my cat back. I was loading up my drums to to rehearse with my band, and my cat ran outside playfully, I didn't think anything of it because I'd usually chase after her and bring her back in. But this time I forgot she was outside until I came home a few hours later and realized it. I went outside, around midnight when I got home, with a flash light and her food container (the sound makes her run to me), and I saw her in some bushes, but she ran off as a approached and i couldn't see in the dark, so I left her some food. Do cats come back by themselves? She was accross the street from the house. Any technique to use to get her to come back to me? She might think I'm playing with her. Please help me on this. (she's an indoor cat, sometimes i let her play in the backyard under my supervision at all times.)

Sorry about my run on sentences, etc. I just came back in from looking for her in the cold for 45 minutes. I hope it doesn't annoy anyone as I'd really like to get her back. Thanks again.

tuna in spring water, get some chunks out....might even want to tap the tuna can with a fork.
Re: How do I get my cat to come back inside?
i posted quick since im sure your trying everything to get her back and i noticed you were online.
anyhow, some cats will return while others do get lost and it becomes very difficult to retrieve...since you saw her in some bushes nearby, she is probably not going too far at the moment.
stick with it....some tasty food like the tuna i mentioned should draw her closer...be sure to talk to her as you would normally (not frantic to scare her). perhaps putting some small chunks of tuna leading to a bowl of it...leaving the large amount nearest to your house/door.

Great idea. I'm just new to this, but I really find this cat adorable. I'm going to try that idea right now actually. Thanks.

Re: How do I get my cat to come back inside?
To anyone that cares... I found my kitten dead on the side of the road behind my house this morning when daylight broke through. I don't get how that could happen when she was only gone a few hours compared to every stray cat around this suburb who are out for months, and I never let her out before. Let this be a lesson to those who let their cats out intentionally. You never know. She didn't appear to be hit, I didn't see any wounds. She lay on her side, eyes open, so something by surprise I guess. I'm a mess... anyway, thanks. I guess I only needed these boards for 5 hours.

Devin, this is a very odd case indeed and couldnt be any more tragic.
im sorry to hear of this, it sounds as if a drive by blunt injury (unintentional of course) may be what happened, but that is hardly worth debating or asking questions at this point.
again, so very sorry to hear of this...you did everything that you could do, dont think otherwise.
please feel free to express your heartfelt thoughts for your kitty in the prayerbook for cats....this board isnt just for cats, its for their loving caretakers as well.
safe journeys little kitty

How heartbreaking, all on this board that reads your post will definitely care! I am so very sorry and it does seem unfair. As Jason said you did all you could. With much sorrow for you and Kitty, Wanda

I'm so sorry for your loss.. that really is heartbreaking. As Jason said, though, you did everything you could do. You sought help with it and tried every possible thing you could do to get her back inside. It was obvious that you cared a great deal about her. I know how you feel with the story, because a few years ago, my old kitty (indoor/outdoor) got hit by a car, and I just coming home from school, saw it happen. He was coming back from across the road because he heard the bus drop me off, and every day he came to meet me. The car was going 40 on a 25mph back road, and they didn't even stop. So I know how absolutely tragic it is for you. Ever since then, I've vowed to keep my future cats completely indoors or on a leash if they like to go outside. But naturally, even indoor cats can get outside accidentally. My prayers go out to you.
