Help for Ozzy dirtbike please

Post by mdnicegirl »

Ozzy Dirtbike is my 1 yr old Cat he will be 2 in march.

background - ozzy came to us because midnight (3 yr female) lost her baby. and was morning really badly. She was a great mom and nursed ozzy for 1 yr.

when ozzy was a kitten he would just be walking along and suddenly freak out as if something spooked him but nothing was even near him.

now ozzy who was never really a people cat, really wants to be petted. but he wont get on your lap. If you put a pillow on your lap, he will get on the pillow and then you can pet him that way.

he wont get on the comforter on the bed. he will get on the sheet or the pillow. if you put a book on the bed he will carefully make his way to the book without touching the comforter and stand on the book or sit on it to be closer to you. He wants so badly to be petted but doesnt like things under his feet.

any suggestions?

Since you said Midnight nursed him for a year, this could be part of the problem, ideally he should have been weaned appropriately around 4-6 weeks of age.

As for the paw sensitivity, might want to get him examined by your vet to ensure there are no problems with the paws or nail beds. Otherwise, he probably simply prefers very soft surfaces, materials. The pillows and such he might be equating to comfort, as in from his strong bond with Midnight.

Might be reaching, but do you often use scented hand lotions or perfumes he may be sensitive to, hence not wanting to be held?

Ozzy does this with everyone. so i dont think it would be lotions.
like paw senstivity i dont see either considering he will get on the bed, just on the comforter unless it is flat. Maybe it is a vision thing.

We have 5 cats total ozzy being 2nd youngest Gem is the youngest. Timber and sybrina are oldest being 9 yrs old and midnight in the middle at 3. Midnight is the only one that goes outside, which I limit (actually hate it) but she sneaks out, she spends more time plotting how to get outside then paying attention to anyone. But still is very lovable. all my cats are lap cats follow you everywhere, even in the shower.. except for ozzy.

Ozzy and midnight no longer have the "bond" that one would thing. Mid plays with gem more now than ozzy.

Ozzy gets on the counter knocks things off that are in his way, he just doesnt like to be on some surfaces that are not flat. I dont know if it is something feel werid under his feet or that he has vision problems.

Ozzy will sit there and watch, for the most part he will let you pet him. he just wont get on things that arent flat. like I was in the bathroom seperating clothes (colors whites....) all the cats are in there. midnight in the bathtub, gem on the bench timber and bre (short for sybrina) laying where they can as they are biggg. and there is ozzy making his way slowly watching every step so not to step on anything but the floor. he is a very polite cat, i am just worried about him. he is not good at catching the string either.

I do thank you for you post before. maybe i just need to take him to the vet.. last time the vet said he was fine, and when he got his hair cut they said he was fine. (ozzy has long hair so i get the hair under him trimed so he doesnt get knots) I just feel for him.

another thing, the lady i got him from had schizophrenia unmedicated. could he have been hurt by her? His brother lives next door. they look like scooby do and scooby bum (color - ozzy being scooby dum) like i said when he was a kitten he would just be walking and freak starting like jumping out of his skin like somthing was after him and nothing was there. do you think he still remembers his childhood (baby age)

I donno. i dont mean to ramble, just worried about him. all my cats including mid who gets out when she can love to cuddle up in a warm blanket and watch bird shows but ozzy is different. he loves to play and will talk around the table batting at you to get you to pet him.

ty again for you help. do you think i am overly worried and this is just him like I dont like the feel styrofoam? he doesnt like bumpy?
