intranasal vaccinations

Post by christilee »

I work at a no-kill Humane Shelter in a very small town that is very overcrowded. We are run and funded solely by volunteers and donations. We vaccinate frequently, per vaccination guidelines.
This year we have had to very bad bouts of Upper-respiratory disease in our cat popultion. Everybody got it. Right now we are struggling to treat three small kittens who are very sick, and we really hope they survive.

I read about an intranasal vaccination that is effective for upper-respiratory, chlamydia, etc. I was thinking if we could have gotten these kittens protected early on they might not be so sick. I asked our vet about this type of vaccination, and he had never heard of it.

Can anyone give me info about an intranasal vaccination, where to get it, how much, anything elese I might need to know to help out cats.

I appreciate your help.

this is strictly an opinion and i can;t back it up but i started using the intra nasl a few years ago and was not too successful in that i though most of the vaccine was blown out....but i also heard that it made the animals the receivee the vaccine carriers for a few weeks, meaning they could cauise symptons of the disease in associated cats....this may be all wrong...i personally think, and againgn maybe wrong that in a croweded area the regular vaccin should be used.....others might have better insight on this...
