Hi,
What a neat site. I was looking for some information on what the best approach is to getting my little Bille spayed. I rescued her from a house with three dogs and nine cats in september last year. I was told she was about 12 weeks old then. If that is accurate she is at least six months old now. Billie is small, but has started to mature into a lovely companion. the thing is I think she may be experienceing signs of her first heat. Some strange behaviors include: lying on her belly and lifting her hind end up in the air while making some strange (lol) cooing and miaoing sounds, and singing.....(i prefer this to howling) every now and then. She does not seem to be in distress all the time, if this is distress. Do I wait now for her to progress through this? How long does a "heat" last? What are some of the common symptoms? Can I do anything to help her through it? I guess I need some education as I have not had a small female kitten. Thank You

Re: Regarding Billie
There's no time like the present to get an appointment made with your vet to get Billie spayed. It does sound like she's in heat, and there is no reason she can't be spayed while in heat.
A heat cycle typically lasts about a week or so, and for every heat cycle allowed, predisposes her to mammary cancer, uterine cancer, etc later on. See Spay & Neuter info.
