Advice much appreciated
Advice much appreciated
Hi, I have a 10 year old cat who I am a bit concerned with. Normally, he is very active and spends a lot of time outdoors. For the last day and a half though, he has not got up from sleeping on my bed. He's off his food, although at times it seems that he does want to eat but stops himself. This has come on very suddenly, though he is still alert and will purr when i stroke hime. He just seems to have no energy. I'm going to take him to the vet this evening but if anyone has any ideas or advce, they would be gratefully received.
Re: Advice much appreciated
Since you allow him access to the outdoors, it could be nearly anything. Please start acclimating him strictly indoors from here on in. (safer, his age, and outdoor dangers are too great)
Since you are taking him in, ask your vet to do a full blood profile including urinalysis and thyroid function testing. This should be done annually on any kitty over the age of 7 to keep abreast of any hidden health issues. Also ask your vet to do a comprehensive oral exam, if he's not eating, a tooth or ulcer/abcess problem could be part of the problem, but there are various things that can cause anorexia, this is where bloodwork is essential.
