Gilbert's getting neutered soon, anything I should know?

Post by Lori, Ashley & Gilbert »

Gilbert is now 6 1/2 months old and will be neutered next Friday. They told me not to feed him after 9pm the night before and bring him in at 8am and pick him up later that afternoon. Back when I had a dog, I had him neutered and he recovered so well, it was almost as if nothing had happened at all. However cats are more delicate and I was just wondering if there is anything I need to know that would be normal vs. abnormal. I have become so attached to my cat that I worry about him in a similar way to the way I worry about my daughter, so I am kind of dreading his surgery but I know it is the right thing to do. So my concerns are along the lines of.....stitches, drainage, signs of infection, etc. Thanks......Lori

Neutering is fairly uncomplicated and easy to recover from compared to a female spay. You shouldn't have any problems at all...your vet should give you any post-op instructions...but mainly look out for any discharge from the snip sight (I don't think they even put stitches in with neuters...but I may be mistaken)....any signs of behavior change or not eating...but you shouldn't have any problems at all. Good luck to Gilbert!
