My cat and the new kitten

Post by CatNap »

One of my cats, Skippy, is about 2.5 years old. He has started doing this strange thing with my new kitten, Boo. He follows or chases her around all day doing this weird noise. It almost sounds like a female when she's in heat. He is neutered BTW. I catch them wrestling all the time and Boo yells out. I don't know if he is always playing or not. He is biting her on the neck and throat a lot, but she still wants to play with him all the time. Does this sound like playful behavior or does it seem like he is trying to hurt her?

It sounds as though Boo may be trying to mate. Is your female spayed?

I have hard of some males doing this or other things with blankets in the home.

Others will have more advice for you, I have two females.

Boo is not spayed, she is only about 8-10 weeks old now!

8-10 weeks isn't too young for spaying; 2 months/2 pounds is becoming more common, and my experience is that younger ones do better than older.

I do plan to spay her, although, my vet recommends waiting until 6 months of age. I may call them and speak about getting it done sooner. She was only 1 lb. 4 oz. at 6-8 weeks of age, so she is still tiny :)
