Nail Polish / Kitten

I was painting my nails and my kitten decided that he wanted his tail painted lol.. Ok not really, but he pounced on my lap and caught the brush with his tail. Now there is a hard clump of nail polish on his furry lil tail.

Does anybody know of a good way to get it off? (preferrably with out having to cut a chunk of his fur out)

My little dude brushed his ear along a freshly painted door not long ago and I had the same concern. It worked itself out pretty fast with my occassionally sort of rubbing gently with my fingernails as much as he'd let me. It took several attempts but it sorta flaked out a bit each time. Granted it's a bit tougher with the tail, since kitty may not want you messing with it, but I imagine you can work it out after a few attempts. Maybe try and keep an eye on him to see he doesn't try to remove it with his teeth or tongue and injest any. Good luck!

I would probably use some non-acetone nailpolish remover quickly, and wash with soap and water afterwards, Dawn dishwashing liquid is good for removing too.

Of course if it is dried it may no take it out, can you cut the fur out?

Just two thoughts, maybe not the answer.

P.S. Jason is correct though checking with the vet is the vest way to go for the safety of your kitty!!

i dont know if it works for this, but dawn soap is often recommened by vets for motor oil, might want to try that....be sure to use caution and go easy with anything you apply to your cats skin.

be sure to call your vet quickly if you are having difficulty removing this, not only for his skin, but he might be licking at it too.

Crisco shortening will work. Just put a small amount on it, let it set for about 10 minutes and then comb it out.

also cuting the hair rather than use solvents to get it off...if left on it maya be chewed, and if solvents are used they can be very toxic to cats, even on the skin
