I adopted a tortoiseshell common american shorthair cat at animal rescue. She may have Siamese in her. She is very whiney. Frankly, it is a bit obnoxious.

Can someone clue me in on cat breed personality traits? I need a calm,
friendly, and not too noisy kitty.

WHen you say whiney, is she asking for something needing attention or food? REmember she was in a shelter and is traumatized. How old is she?

Actually those cats are not all that common. I have a black and white kitten and she is very vocal, and I love it, she trills and screeches and meows and talks to us. It is a joy to behold for me, and my Honeybun (5yrs old) orange and white female has started being vocal and calling for the new kitten (6 mos old). I really enjoy the interaction.

I am sorry to say this, but perhaps a cat is not the right pet for you. They require patience, love and a lot of care. THey are highly sensitive and intelligent and pick up on everything, including the mood you are in.

Perhaps she is wanting more attention or some toys to play with?

DId you have her examined by a vet after adoption to ensure she is healthy?
Perhaps others will have more ideas.

Well siamese cats tend to be more vocal than the rest and will always tell you exactly how they feel about everything. There are some people who claim that tortoiseshells are the naughtiest colored cats, but I don't believe this to be a hard and fast rule.

It really sounds like your kitten just wants to play and communicate with you. You are after all the mummy cat, and the centre of your kitties universe. I hope everything works out for you both. A little patience goes a long way with cats. They tend to pick up on your frustration, so if you're frustrated with them, it just makes them worse.
