HELP with poop!!

Post by Misty »

This kitten of mine, Boo, insists on pooping in my bathroom floor. We have 3 litter boxes in our house and I have showed her over and over where it is. She is big enough to get in it, because I have seen her do it. Its almost like at night, she is too lazy to walk up the hall and use it, she'd rather just let it go right in the bathroom next to my bed. She always goes on whatever might be in the floor, a towel mostly. I have never had a cat that would go to the box to poop, any suggestions??

Take your cat to the vet first off and have her checked over. This could be a health concern.

If she checks out okay, put the box in the bathroom and see if that helps. But normally when they poop out of the box, it does turn out of be a health issue.

I had the same problem with my kitten when I first got her. Except her favorite poop place was my new oriental rug!! :o And it was NOT a health issue. She simply didn't like the litter I had for her. Immediately when I changed her litter, she started pooping in the litter box every time and hasn't pooped outside the box since then. Try changing her litter. And like the other reply said, maybe put a liter box in the bathroom until she gets used to it.

didnt mention how many other cats you have, perhaps this one is picky about the amount of waste present. at night, maybe the boxes are filling up from the day.

you can try cleaning it more often, moving to bathroom, etc etc...but after trying a few quick fixes with no success, do not hesitate a vet visit for an examination.

She was just checked out by the vet last week and he said that she is very healthy. I don't see that anything could have come up health wise since then. I have since put the litter box in my bathroom and she uses it just fine. There are 4 other cats in the house but we have several litter boxes for them. I really didn't want it in the bathroom next to our bed but hey, its better than cleaning up poop out of my floor every morning!

yeah, no kidding...in a few days, you may want to try slowly moving this box out....kitty steps on the movement, every 3 or so days make some movement out...maybe it will work out eventually.

My 12 yr old kitty does this too, but I think its for attention. He also will sit at a sink and howl for water, and then when you water him he runs to the other sink and howls there  He shares the box with two other cats, who are both dominant over him. He pees on certain spots on the rugs too. We also have 2 or 3 boxes around the house. is there any suggestion what we can do?

Sound like it's a territorial thing going on. Our senses are not as acute as theirs. Boo may smell your scent on whatever items are on the floor. There are 4 other cats, she wants to mark your things (towels, area around your bed) to show dominance over the others where you are concerned. It's more of a "litter" thing than a "litter box" thing. It goes on w/dogs & cats. Ever notice that when you change the litter box as soon as you get fresh litter in there there will be one cat who rushes in it to pee or poop. They could have just went before you changed it. They're marking it, dominance. You have 4 cats and even if they are all kittens you will know who the dominant one is.
If she is ok now w/litter box in bathroom, leave it there and gradually move it away. A few feet every day. One thing though, you have to change it regularly and scoop out and flush smellies or she will go back to her old habit.
