I'm so excited!

Post by Erica »

Nemo's getting neutered! Haven't been here for a while so here's an update for those who don't know...Nemo is my little FeLV+ kitty. He tested positive at 8 weeks old and was taken in to my vet to be euthanized. She couldn't do it so convinced them to give the kitten to her and she gave it to me. He's been in quarantine away from my negative cat since then. He's almost 6 months old now and the only problem he's had has been conjunctivitis. He's incredibly huge and very feisty. So he's going in for his neuter next week and getting re-tested. Hopefully he's negative, because if he's not, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I can't keep him in my bedroom for the rest of his life but I can't let him out because of my other cat...I guess i'll figure something out.

Also, would it be safe now to switch him to an adult food? This cat is HUGE. He weighs a good 5 lbs now at least and he's fat. I think all the kitten nutrients and fat is starting to be a bad idea with him.

I had to switch D'Artagnan at 5 months to adult food. Only the problem was my OTHER cat was getting huge because she was eating it too. THe vet told us to mix it half and half with the adult and let them eat it. Well, Booker would only eat the kitten food. SO, long story short, the vet okayed us to go to only adult food with canned kitten food for D'Artagnan at least once a week.

Well....Nemo was neutered today. The vet called a couple of hours ago to say everything went fine and that he is a fat, happy cat. Unfortunately, he tested a "light" positive again...So now I have to figure out what I'm going to do. I guess I was just so hopeful that he would test negative that I didn't make any plans for him being positive. I can't keep him in my bedroom for the rest of his life but I have a negative cat as well. If any one has any idea or suggestions now, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
