I came home last night to find gooey white stuff on the inside corner of my Molly's eye. Molly is 2 year's old and has been strictly an indoor cat since the age of 3 months. I cleared the stuff from her eye before we went to bed. I'm up now at 5AM noticing more of a build up and a constant blink in that one eye. I have no idea what this is and wonder if it warrants a vet check. She doesn't appear to be exhibiting any other kinds of symptoms.
On another note, my sister's cat was here today and it seems everytime Bella is around Molly ends up sick. Bella resides with my sister, her husband and their dog in the first floor apartment of this house. We are on the third and top floor. Bella too is strictly indoors but the dog isn't. Everyone is up to date on their vaccines but I wonder if JoBear (dog) is bringing something from the outside in and Bella is transmitting it when he comes to visit. Does Bella necessarily have to have symptoms as well. I do have two cats and my other girl doesn't seem to be afflicted as much as Molly is.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!
Cleo
Eye Problem
Re: Eye Problem
could be simple conjunctivite, allergy, sinusitis etc etc...Jobear could be the culprit but would be best to get it checked

Re: Eye Problem
I agree with davet, the best thing you can do is have it checked. I hope it's nothing serious!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

Re: Eye Problem
I agree with the others. The most common eye problem is a "cold in the eye". There are two different viruses that I know of that can cause that. If the gunk is thick and green, it is bacterial and needs immediate attention. Also, allergies (which can be seasonal) can cause it to come on unexpectedly.
Since you stated that another cat visited recently, they could have been wrestling around and got a scratch in the eye. I think I would take the kit to the vet.
My cat went to the vet this weekend and had a "cold in his eye" with a watery eye (clear discharge). The vet gave me eyedrops to calm down some of the symptoms. I highly recommend that you use TWO strong able-bodied persons for putting in eyedrops!!! I think I wasted 20 drops during the first application, and only managed to get one eye drop in. I was trying to do it by myself. I have a Houdini cat or something. I had such a great grip on him, and he would turn to rubber and seemed to just dissolve out of my hands and would take off like a bullet.
