Re: Lost Buttercup
Thank you Traci and Tambrey for your comforting thoughts. It helps !When your cat gets to be 16 yrs, you would think I'd know that she wont be around forever, but it is hard. I am going to start the process now of finding a new little girl to take care of-hoping for a kitten while I,m young enough t...

Lost Buttercup
Hi Traci, I had talked with you off and on about my marmalade kitty Buttercup. She had actually done better and gained weight since Jan. Then she got an UTI, antibiotics for 2 months. Then 3 weeks ago, she didnt eat and drink for just a day. I took her in - her chronice renal failure had gotten wors...

Re: Prednisolone -use in weight loss
Thanks for your concerns Traci and Debbie. Buttercup did have 2 complete bloodworkups in 2004-all negative. My Vet is an all feline one and has taken care of Buttercup for 15 years. She is not happy with me that I chose this way to go but wants to do as much as she can for the kitty. She says that s...

Prednisolone -use in weight loss
Hi, I have mentioned in the past that my cat Buttercup was losing weight. I did decline an exploratory lap and endoscopy. She's almost 16 yrs. The Tila ( sp) test was slightly abnormal. Occasionally, she has gained some weight back. But now, we decided to go with empirical prednisolone. I am told th...

Re: Cat loosing weight due to appetite loss.
My apologies Traci--in my mind I thought I had answered your last comments. Yes, I meant TLI test. Chem profile and hem count are normal. No, the Vet didnt take any Xrays , as she didnt think they would give her enough answers. I shall follow your suggestions re frequent weights. And if Butte...

Re: Cat loosing weight due to appetite loss.
Hi Traci and All, Thank you for your reply. Hmmm, I hadnt thought of an hypoallergenic diet. Buttercup can be picky-food has to be tasty. I,ll check further though on this type diet. Buttercup,s chem profile including thyroid are all normal. Just the TILA test is slightly off-only one parameter. The...

Cat loosing weight due to appetite loss.
Hi All, My 15 yr old cat Buttercup has a weight loss of a pound over the last year ( down from 12 pounds). My vet can feel a thickening of the intestines and thinks she has a Crohn's like disease. I didnt want to put the cat thru an exploratory lap. nor an endoscopy. We can try empirically prednison...

Re: Feeding re older cat
Hi Jason and Traci, Jason , I did try the mixing of dry and canned food as you suggested . And it did help to get her back on track. Thanks for suggesting that. Then I found softer dry food, which she is now eating better and back to normal these last 2 days. May it last!! I got back her blood repor...
