Re: is fruit ok for dogs?
The only fruits I usually caution against are grapes and raisins. They are thought to be toxic to the kidneys, the last I heard.

Re: C-Reactive Protein in dogs
Well, it is not just the fact that they don't live long enough to form plaques but the fact that dogs process fats somewhat differently than humans. Fat is the first source of energy for dogs, especially endurance dogs, and dogs use fat very effectively. Carbohydrates are a secondary energy source. ...

Re: C-Reactive Protein in dogs
Hello, Since dogs do not suffer heart attacks like humans, it is unlikely that dogs would have this protein. My guess is that this protein is not found with any consistency in dogs so even if there were a test you could use on dogs, it might not be helpful. In the link below, there is a paragraph ab...

Re: food and protein levels
Hello Kristinga, I am going to chime in here. My opinions may be different from others here but that is what is great about this kind of forum. I don't think 18% protein is too low for a dog that is not very active but I have seen some dogs not do well on vegetarian diets, in general, over a long pe...

Re: Arthritis and what will help?
I felt the need to jump in here about vitamin C and canines. I do feel extra vitamin C is needed by most of our canine companions. While most animals can manufacture vitamin C, I do not think their bodies can keep up during times of stress. Age and environmental conditions can play a large role. I l...

Re: I have a question about my almost 13 year old chow.
Thanks, Debbie. Did you ever find the other source you were looking for? I am just really curious. It seems renal failure is being diagnosed more recently than used to but maybe that is because more clients want blood work done routinely now.

Debbie,
Can you please quote your source for this information? I would love to read it. I have never seen these symptoms mentioned as possible symptoms of chronic renal failure.

Thanks, jdf
I wondered what the reasoning was for the formula change. I personally do not like the new formulation. If I wanted Pepto Bismol, that's what I would buy. I don't think it works as well as the older Kaopectate.

Thank you everyone
for answering my questions. I do not know what the diet food was but the owner is convinced that the thyroid med is the culprit of the gas. The dog had four teeth removed 4 months ago because they were broken off and I think the dog does probably eat differently now because of this. (more gulping, l...

Question about hypothyroidism and medications
Hi everyone, It has been a long time since I have written. I usually have time to lurk but just don't always have time to respond. I have a question about a dog with hypothyroidism that has been medicated now about 3 weeks. He is due back for another blood sample to check thyroid levels in another w...
