Re: Thrombocytopenia
She's a mixed beagle. Mom was purebred beagle, dad was beagle and ? Casey was a product of my niece not getting her two dogs spayed and neutered. Casey was also taken away from Mom too early, not my idea. She was barely 5 weeks old. Casey was fine until a year ago this week. She is spayed. She is 5 ...

Re: Thrombocytopenia
If her platelets or PCV are dangerously low, please at least ask your vet about a consult with a veterinary university specialist....all of Casey's prior history, lab results from last year to now, etc could be reviewed, a specialist may be able to offer more in terms of conservative diagnostics, t...

Marty I am sorry Winnie has not been well.
I understand and sympathize with you on the emotional roller coaster and the lack of sleep. I will keep her and you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope Winnie continues to improve.

Re: Thrombocytopenia
I don't know what all they checked her for this time with the blood chem test. They said she has no infections and no parasites. They suspect it may be genetic. I wish I could afford more extensive tests. We are struggling too many things have come up lately and we are taking some serious $ hits tha...

Why do you think its not Thrombocytopenia?Traci wrote:See your other post, please. Too many causes and indications for thrombocytopenia, your vet needs to differentiate with testing/further diagnostics.

Re: What is considered a normal PCV in dogs?
I had to take Casey in this morning. Her color seemed off. She hasn't been on Prednisone since Nov. Her red blood cells maintained at 45 or a bit higher until recently. I don't know when she slipped I guess I missed it until now. We saw a different vet but with the same office today. They have resta...

What is considered a normal PCV in dogs?
Is it about the same for all breeds?
If not, then what is considered normal for a beagle? Is it 40 - 45?
Casey's has slipped to 38.
Sorry for my stupidity. I didn't think of these questions while I was at the vet.

Re: Bully sticks???
I don't know if its true about bull sticks especially since some are "smoked". The store I used to work for tested positive with Salmonella from the greasy pigs ears. I quit buying them for our dogs long ago. The pig ears were sold individually and unwrapped. Our second store director insi...
