Re: moving kitty across the country
Hi Doris, I am doing the SAME think this weekend. Taking one dog and one cat cross country from Wisconsin to Arizona. I am more worried about my kitty. He travels well at short distances, but this is a doozy! My plans are to leave him in his large carrier in the back seat, have sedation on hand if n...

Re: Could someone give me a quick overview of kennel cough?
Hi Mary, Kennel cough (Infectious tracheobronchitis) can be viral and/or bacterial in origin. Adenovirus can cause symptoms alone, as can Bordetella bronchiseptica, which is a bacterial organism. "Kennel cough" usually refers to the Bordetella organism (thus the term "kennel cough vac...

Re: Medicating a dog for long distance travel??
Hi Bananas, Acepromazine is an effective sedative. Some of the downsides to its use are that it doesn't provide any anti-anxiety effects, it can cause hypotension (decreased blood pressure) and it has a very long duration (can be > 10 hours). It is contraindicated in dogs with a history of seizures....

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! I am now officially registered again, thanks Traci! No, davet, no emergencies on my own yet. Just got my license this week! I'm getting a little bored and can't wait to move and get started! I'm afraid all that knowledge is going to exit my brain if I don't start...

Re: Best medication for arthritic Pom....
In addition to a glucosamine and chondroitoin supplement (which may not be "enough" for severe pain), you should ask your vet about a prescription for a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. There are many new products currently on the market such as Deramaxx (deracoxib), Metacam (me...

Davet, I haven't heard about AVMA accreditation. I will keep an ear out. I thought it was a well-written article and think this sounds like a very compassionate, progressive school. I saw your post over on the cat board and have to say that we DO "practice" on live animals when we do our s...

Hi Mary,
I'm sorry to hear about Mr. Blue's run in. I'm glad you got him on anti biotics right away. I am curious though (tell me if I'm too nosy)- did the neighbor offer to pay your vet bill? He should!
