Re: Help...Honey has me worried..

Hi-- My 5 year-old lab mix Maggie had the same symptoms. She would wake up panting heavily, or just pant when resting, as Honey does. I was so worried she had heart failure or something. Our vet couldn't find anything with her bloodwork or chest x-rays, so she referred us to a veterinary internal me...

Re: skin/coat odor

davet--the vet agress seborrhea may be the problem, and suggested a shampoo targeted towards controlling the problem (he wasn't specific about the shampoo). I noticed many of the shampoos for seborrhea contain "black tar". On the back of one of the shampoo bottles, it claims this has been ...

Re: skin/coat odor

Thanks, davet...any shampoos you recommend? His hair is a bit oily in that area, that could very well be what is causing that rancid odor there. Also, you mentioned adding fat or oil...what type of oil is best (flaxseed, salmon, etc.)?

skin/coat odor

My 4 year old lab has an area on his back that smells very bad. He does not appear to have any (visible) skin rashes or infections at this area. I pointed it out to the vet when we were there for his shots, he didn't think it was a problem. It is just one isolated area, though--on his back between h...

Re: For the yeast...

I now clean her ears with a product called Malaseb, which is not only a cleaner, but also an antifungal for yeast. Are you aware that the chlorhexidine in Malaseb is ototoxic? It can damage the ear and cause deafness. There is a very strong warning on human products that contain this chemic...

For the yeast...

My lab mix, Maggie, gets yeast infections in her ear. I now clean her ears with a product called Malaseb, which is not only a cleaner, but also an antifungal for yeast. I clean them every other day and she has not had another yeast infection in several months. Your vet may have it or you can order i...

Re: cat losing weight-- kidney infection

Yes, just tested negative for FELV/FIV.

An oral exam is a good idea, he has no previous dental work besides my brushing his teeth at home.

Thanks again, I will keep you updated.

Re: cat losing weight-- kidney infection

No vomiting, no diarrhea, stools are normal looking. Wouldn't a bacterial infection show itself in those symptoms? He has been drinking a bit more water, but I attributed that to the heat (I am in GA and it has been over 90 degrees and very humid lately). He has been eating a bit less this Summer an...

Re: cat losing weight-- kidney infection

Good plan, thank you. Wouldn't the full blood panel sugar levels indicate diabetes if it was present? Do you still think an ultrasound is premature at this point? His kidneys were palpated, and the vet did not think they felt abnormal. Everything indicates they are fine, BUT... It is so difficult wh...

Re: cat losing weight-- kidney infection

The USG was higher, showing that his kidneys are functioning normally. That's the frustrating thing--she did not give any other explanation for the weight loss, I suppose becasue the tests did not show anything abnormal. I have only noticed it recently. I have also noticed that his coat seems a bit ...
